Finger Players!

I am beyond thrilled to win two tickets to this award winning show by The Finger Players.

It is especially meaning to have a "puppet" show puppet show which explore the disappearing traditional artform of our culture. It is very sad that as the new generation become more exposed to global influence, our attempt to preserve and promote the very culture of our own people has become so neglected.

German Discovery: Charlotte Link

I seemed to be stuck in world of Deutschland this year! As opposed to the entire slew of Scandinavian writings I discovered last year.

Charlotte Link is yet another German novelist I have discovered. I have just finished her hugely popular The Other Child and will soon be venturing on to The Watcher.

Another German Thriller ! Helen Turnsten

Last year I discovered several Scandinavian writers and enjoyed my adventures with them tremendously. This year I am mightily pleased to continue my European exploration into Germany. I have now discovered Helene Turnsten and her Detective Inspector Huss!

Nele Neuhaus

Am most pleased to discover Nele Neuhaus, who served up the most riveting thrillers.

With such fairy tales inspired title, I could not help but make comparison with Craig Russel who penned the Jan Fabel series with books like Brother Grimm.  Is it a coincidental that both of them are German-based? Hence the wicked fairy tales link?

The books were almost cinematic in pace. I can visualize them being translated into exciting thrillers on the big screen. Provided good directors are at the helm, of course!

图书馆战争

At the beginning of the movie LIBRARY WARS:

"Declaration of Library Rights":
1. The right to collect written materials
2. The right to make those materials publicly available
3. The right to preserve user privacy
4. The right to resist censorship

In preserving books we preserve liberty.

A nation that burns books will one day burn men."

Love this movie...so of course I have to read ALL the books. Here goes:

Dallas Buyers Club

If there's a movie that's a must watch this year. This is IT!

Just to watch Mathew McCoughey is more than enough. It is a truly stellar performance from an actor better known for his light-weight romantic comedy leading man billing.

And then there's Jared Leto. Man, he looks better than so many real woman when all dolled up. What a heart wrenching end to his role.

Inside Llewyn Davis

Inside Llewyn DavisA movie about a loser. But oh, once he is on stage and the music takes over? He is a winner.

Folk music....i always love it. So it does not matter that the protagonist of this movie is an anti-hero. I still like him. For all his flaws and miseries. For when he starts singing and strumming, he becomes special. The melancholy takes me to a different time and place. A nostalgic place.

I always enioy the Coen brothers' movies and this happens to be another one of them

Jo Nesbo

Police (Harry Hole Series #10)Many years ago I have already read some Jo Nesbo. Somehow over the years I have dropped him. But since watching the movie Headhunters, I am going on a journey to rediscover him.

Many have compared him with Stieg Larsson and vice versa. I do not agree. The two writers have very different style apart from the fact that they both write thrillers. Nesbo's book are much easier to read than Larsson's, who has an underlying social theme. Nesbo,on the other hand, serves up thrilling fast pace fiction that are often reminiscent of a roller coaster ride.I find Nesbo immensely entertaining while Larsson's fiction are more enlightening.

2014 - I will start my journey to reacquaint myself with Jo Nesbo and Harry Hole and his early adventures, while awaiting for the the library's to acquire his latest.

With determination, I completed the much lauded Millennium Trilogy within a week。 3 books and 3 DVDs。 Its the “Lord of the Ring” of thriller literature。

What a ride !
