Reading is a process of imagining. You visualise the characters, you transport yourself into settings. And on occasions, the process leap from pages to screen. I often watch film adaptations of novels. Sometimes in disappointment. At times in delight.
The current pairing I am processing is chinese author 蔡骏‘s 谋杀似水年华。Unfortunately, or fortunately, that I read the book before watching the film.
It turned out to be 谋杀 indeed! Without a doubt the movie totally murdered the essence of the book. The director, producers and actors are all criminally guilty of book slaughter.
